A quick post as I'd arrived here via a Google search which flagged up the forum posts on how to fix an Ideal (Icos 3080) boiler (with an L8 fault code). Mine was fitted in the winter of 2002.
The advice I found in the threads is good, but a couple of points need highlighting/updating for anyone else arriving here with similar problems.
1) Homeserve no longer will quote for boiler repairs at all, let alone a fixed price - reneging on the promise they make on their website here
They do redirect the caller to the manufacturer servicing phone line (do they get a kickback for this?)
2) Ideal can't be bothered to repair a boiler more than 10 years old, demonstrating how much they care for their customers and their keenness to contribute to landfill.
So I told the phone line operative that I'd highlight the quality of their customer care on the internet.
Poor show all around.
