I have an old boiler (at least 17 years), an Ideal Mexico Super CF75. Does anybody know if it's likely to have an aluminium heat exchanger? Not sure how long they've been making them of aluminium? The boiler is built like a tank (so to speak) so I was hoping the exchanger might be cast iron or something.
The reason for the question is that we've just had a water softener fitted and the central system is now full of soft water (radiators came off while other things were being done and so the system was drained and then refilled). I believe soft water and aluminium don't mix! I'm going to add Sentinel X100 and hope this will be sufficient, but I just wondered if I had a problem at all.
