I have recently moved into a new flat, and almost instaintly had the kitchen re-fitted, when they moved the pluming for the gas oven the gas was shut off and our ideal w2000 pilot went out, we still have a gas supply as the hob works fine, when i look through the peep hole on the boiler i cant see anything when trying to ignight the pilot, i have followed the ignition instructions precisely a hundred times still no joy, what is the problem likely to be? could it just be the ignition, and what should i expect the damages to be to my wallet? i would appreciate any info. Thanks

Phone the engineer who installed your gas hob. after a gas installation is done its tested for tightness and any appliances affected should be restarted and a visual done.

I would not blame the person who connected the hob as I think its coincidental. I do hope he was CORGI registered.

In our local area we would charge a fixed fee of £84 plus £4 for a new thermocouple and would give it a good clean out ( sevice ).

Some others would charge less but only do the minimum to get it going!

thanks Agile, i don't think the fitter has done anything wrong infact i think he has done a good job,
I thought it may have been the thermocouple but there is not even a flicker when i try to ignight it, i also cannot see and arc from the ignigtor... is this normal for when the thermocouple is faulty?

Thanks

If your thermocouple lead is faulty the pilot will light, but go out on release of the grey button after holding it in after for 20 seconds once the pilot light has been established.

Very rarely it 'coincidense', and in this case I think the RGI has failed to relight the boiler because

1: He didnt bother
2: He tried and failed
3: He was un an unregistered RGI who had no confidence to take the boiler apart and relight the pilot manually.

Thanks Dave,

I had checked and he was regisered, i got the pilot to light again shortly after he had gone.... i left and can back the following day and it was out again, i have been unable to light it since!

Do you mean it fails to light or will light, and go out once the button is released?

If it fails to light, I would suspect a blocked pilot or your lead is shorting out and not sparking in the correct location.

Hope this helps

Dave

All these fault are CORGI territory really.

Unless your boiler is open flued I would advise a competent engineer to fix your problem.

Even if it is open flued you should err on the side of caution.

when turned off problem came to light.
it happens. get qualified man to change it.
whatever flue QUALIFIED MAN ie corgi
