Well I`ve actually got mild Tourettes - and these calls stress me , making it worse - so I go into the "bathroom " and put a few F`s into them while squatting - that`s why I`m Nige F . That is the very few that get past the TPS ( or whatever) because they use random dialling to access our unlisted number . As to it being a proper job - I`d rather clean London`s sewers with no PPE than "work" in a call center

Where I was, half the people I started with were gone after four months. It was 6 months for me at which time I got a real job.

Caller id does the trick. UK originated calls are mostly screened out by the TPS registration. Overseas calls I don't answer (the cordless phones I have set not to ring) and go to the answering machine. The pests don't leave a message.

You can still get the uk ones if the company is not tied to the tps, but my preffered approach is I will not enter into any telephone conversation with them until they get on their knees and recite the lords prayer with me to prove their belief in the one true god and that it is a sin to bother people.
As an atheist it gives me a chuckle from time to time.

My number is unlisted.

If they are calling from the UK, I ask them where they obtained my number from, and to remove it from their database. I also advise that should they fail to do so, I will report them to the police for harassment.

If it is a foreign number, I ask them to hand the call over to a native English speaker as I cannot understand them!

Works every time.

This sounds like the best option.

TPS is the law, but only applies to UK registered companies. Most comply.

My irritating calls diminished by about 98% onced I'd registered with the TPS. Calls i get these days (usually PPI stuff - ) I ask where the company is registered,if they say somewhere in the UK, i ask if they've heard of the TPS, because they're breaking the law, if it's in India I hang up.

Point is, your life is riddled by things taking up time you would rather not spend... e.g.

- tv adverts
- drivers not indicating
- knocking something over when you're in a hurry
- late train
- shop assistants gossiping rather than serving you...
etc etc

point is... don't let it wind you up... they're doing a (sh1te) job... that's all. Quickly dismiss it (or play mind games with them, and wind them up... see it as a game)!

I'm sure I mentioned this elsewhere, but nevertheless:

My phone is on 'answerphone' permanently. When it rings, I do not pick it up, but wait to see who is calling. If I hear someone I know, I pick up. If not, I leave it to record. Telesales are never responded to.

Most of the time, though, when telesales hear the recorded message they don't bother to continue and hang up. It works faultlessly.
