Immersion heater, 2nd duff thermostat?

so the connections look OK but I can't read the thermostat setting.

Was the overheat button pressed in?

New thermostats are supplied ready to use - there is no need to press any reset button.
Indeed.

However, has this discussion not got a bit unnecessarily carried away with itself? If, as seems to be what we've been told, measurements showed that there was no continuity across the thermostat when it was set to a temperature above the prevailing ambient, then that surely makes it a 'duff thermostat' - and that's both the start and end of the story?

To find two thermostats which were seemingly both 'duff' in this fashion is obviously very bad luck - but not necessarily a (extremely improbable) 'co-incidence', given that they both came from (probably the same branch of) Screwfix in quick succession, hence very probably from the same manufacturing batch.

Kind Regards, John

The quality of thermostats today is absolutely dire (along with immersion heaters). It is no surprise that they don't work out the box.
You'll also find the temperature setting from the factory arbitrary...testing many over the years it is common to find them up to 20 degrees out.

That may well be true, but it looks as if the OP's one was/is set to over 60 °C.
