Hi folks, I recently moved into council property, getting used to having someone else do the repairs. When I noticed the immersion heater was leaking, I phoned up repairs, who sent a man round to turn off the water and heating. The tank is splitting, the man told me. You'll be fitting a new tank, said I, thinking I'd better clear the decks for him when he returns. A week went by, then two weeks, every time I phone and ask when the immersion heater will be repaired I'm told they are waiting for parts. I find that to be strange, having lived in my house and taken care of the repairs, never had a problem getting spares for anything. A neighbour told me that a few people have said they are waiting for spare parts for their immersion heater. Is there a shortage of parts for immersion heaters? Moreover, I'm puzzled as a new tank won't be fitted, yet the present one is splitting. Thankfully, I joined this forum a few years ago, I'm truly grateful to have had people to turn to for advice, thank you folks. Now looking over the shoulders of maintenance people.

I would be putting them On Notice,, to say the Repairman who attended has noted the tank is splitting, and will need replacement. Should it fail beforehand you will hold them Liable for any damages to your property fixtures and fitting within their premises. Why should your No Claims take a hit for their tardiness.

Put a complaint in, they usually don’t like that. Also as per @Exedon, they may have a preferred supplier, we (Social housing) have to use Travis Perkins.

Absolute *******s call them and say you dont have hot water and if it is not sorted within 24 working hours (3 days) they take the pish with that one, that you want put up in a hotel or another property at their expence, that is your legal right, they will soon appear with your new cylinder
