Hi, thought to share electrical hook up issue today. I am finishing a garden workshop and power hook up for a friend. As I am not a certified electrician design was discussed and OK,d with my certified electrical tester.
Previous jobs done for various garages and workshops and signed off no problem with test cert provided
What threw me today when testing was 240v OK at main board mcd and 240v at shed consumer inlet on no load. However when switching on lighting and power circuits the voltage dropped to 120v and 75v.
After checking all external wiring continuity and isolation still problems. Then isolated everything and went home to think.
Looking at the existing house consumer unit photos noticed that I had connected the neutral to the protected neutral and not the unprotected neutral . Breaker is on the unprotected side.
Tomorrow will wire correctly and going forward will probably leave final board connection to the experts as I have done in previous jobs. No doubt I will in for a dressing down by my approved electrician.
Suitably humbled.
