Installing a drain cock

You can't solder if there's water around so a T can be soldered into dry pipework and the compression drain cock fitted to that. With wet pipework everything must be compression.

I think.

Type B, doesn't have a gland seal, and will leak when you turn the head to drain.

Type A has a gland seal. Much better.

Also to the OP. If you do solder on a drain cock, unscrew your cock's head and remove the innards  before soldering.

Otherwise, you will fry the rubber washer inside.

Type A is glanded, and will not **** water everywhere when opened, type B is not and will.

In other words, Type A is like a proper, miniature tap. Attach a hose and away you go.

With Type B's, you need a bowl underneath to catch the drips, which needs frequent emptying. A pain.

Drain cocks are quite happy to be fitted to compression Tees.
Never have any problems fitting like this.
