Installing a upvc back door.

I'm tempted to try replacing my old back door with a new upvc one.

How difficult is this to do? Is there any websites that help explain how to do this?

So far I've measured the opening and it seems to match the off the shelf door sizes.

I assume its just a matter of prying out the old wooden frame and cleaning up the opening. Then just screw the new frame into the brickwork using the correct fixings.
Im unsure of what fixings to use and how I should seal the door.

Is it that simple? Am I even allowed to do this kind of task as a DIY'er?

What are your thoughts, should I be leaving this to a pro?

You can do this work yourself, but it is notifyable & subject to BC, you will also need the local council to inspect & give you a certificate to say it conforms. If you use a FENSA registered company, they should notify the council for you (although I’m not sure how many do!) & provide you with a FENSA registration certificate. Make sure you get either a compliance certificate from your local BC dept or a FENSA certificate or you could have trouble selling your house as others have found

Out of interest, is there a reason why you want to install an ugly plastic door, when for less money you install a stronger and more secure wooden one?

Having read some more of this forum I think I might try for a hardwood one instead.

I was asking because B&Q had upvc ones for £99....

But I'm pretty sure this still won't get you around having to notify BC as you are replacing the door!
