Hi,

I am buying a kit from screwfix to install an outside tap, the one that has a self cutting tap and seal....... We're having an extension and i asked for an additional price for this and was quoted £180... lets say i'm not paying that!

Just a few questions:

1. Do i drill from the outside to inside, or from inside to outside?
2. I assume it's a lot easier to do before the kitchen?
3. Any other advice?

Cheers.

1. Yes
2. Sometimes, depends on the pipework configuration
3. Yes. Take that nasty kit back and do the job properly. Self cutting taps push a disc of copper into the existing pipework, which can cause blockages, are not approved by the regulations for use on a mains water supply, suffer from poor flow rate, and often leak. You need an isolation valve and a double check valve, a tee and a backplate

Just pay the man £180.

Andy

But not to fit the kit!!

TBF, £180 seems a bit steep, especially if he is doing the plumbing anyway?

OP - why skimp and fit garbage, after presumably spending a packet on the extension?
