Hi,
We are thinking of installing carpets in our loft which is fully boarded (18mm chipboards) and we had two carpet companies (very large) where the surveyors came in to look at it.
One of them said you can't have carpets and underlay because there are no skirting boards to tuck the carpet underneath and they can't put grippers on. After speaking to one of their fitters on the phone, they said only felt backed carpet can be installed with staples and spray adhesive and only polyproplyene carpets can be installed.
The second company - they said they can staple underlay first without grippers and then any carpet of your choice on top with carpet spray adhesive.
Who is telling the truth?
I should add the first one mentioned they can offer discounts as the store needs to meet its sales target.
Image attached. The current flooring just has some old left over pieces put together which will be removed. It is just laid over on top only the middle section has some staples but no underlay. This was done 10 years ago.
Thanks.
Dean
