hey, i was thinking of installing 6 downlights in my kitchen (currently i only have a single light on the ceiling)....would there be a problem of joists coming in the way when running the wires down to the rest of the lights when connecting them? if so, is there a way around this? any help would be much appreciated thanks

The joists will go either down or across the ceiling so they will be in the way.

Also your existing light will be sitting on a joist.

There's no magic formula. The best way round it is to take up a row of floorboards above the kitchen - that way you'll also be able to see where there are obstructions that will get in the way of the downlights.

Why not just put in a new fluorescent strip, It'll give you a much better light, and cheaper to run too!
