I just moved into a new house and would like to move the aerial socket to the other side of the room and also install a new plug socket next to it and another for an electric fireplace. I want to do these before replacing the present carpet with parquet flooring. I've never had a UK house before, only Mediterranean stone houses where u passed everything through digging gutters in the wall and then plastering. My house has chipboard floorboards and it's about nine years old.

if you've never worked on UK electrics before i STRONGLY suggest you get hold of a decent diy electrics book (i belive the which book of wiring and lighting is decent though the only such books i own myself are very old) so you are aware of conventions in this country. A copy of the IEE on site guide is also reccomended so you are aware of the things like cable calculations that the diy books tend to ignore.

running under the floor is probablly the easiest option, you can generally push cables through with long bits of wood or similar and/or climb down under the floor through an opening you've made (depending on just how much space was left between floor and ground)

you'll also have to join the arial cable, every join in arial cable will cause loss and the standard TV arial plugs are particularlly bad. The best way to join it is probablly to use a pair of F plugs (the type used for satalite TV) and a F coupler.
