Interesting perspective on Trusk and Mump.

Bloomberg reports: The value of the U.S. dollar has significantly decreased since President Trump took office, reflecting investor concerns about his policies. This decline, mirroring a similar rapid drop in 2010, is attributed to several of Trump's key agenda items.

  • Key drivers of this depreciation include:
    • Tariff increases that disrupted global trade and strained relationships with allies.
    • Proposed tax cuts expected to increase budget deficits and national debt.
    • Pressure on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.
    • Legal tactics employed against those disagreeing with his policies.

He needs to decrease its value a lot more in order to make American exports competitive.
I think it's part of his 'strategy' to make America great again.

...and to make imports more expensive for Americans, thus lowering standards of living.

Unless he is planning to make wages for working-class Americans as low as Bangladesh or China, he will not make American exports compete.

I don't believe has has any strategy, beyond enriching his preferred family and receiving insincere adulation.

Therein lies the problem. If citizens are paying $500 for a product that's made in China, will they be happy to pay 50-100% more to have the product made in the USA. Those earning above a certain level might be and/or those who are hardcore MAGA supporters. But the average earning majority? I doubt it.

Surely most western countries would/will face this dilemma if they want to bring certain manufacturing back to the homeland?

There is a theory of trade that if every country makes what it is best at, it can sell them, and buy whatever somebody else can make better

Fillyboy believes its possible to manufacture consumer goods in America for the same cost as cheap labour countries can produce them.
Theoretically, he has a point, if the dollar is devalued to the point of worthlessness, then the cost of imports will be prohibitively expensive, therefore Americans will have to start manufacturing their own cheap tat, the only problem is that wages will be so low that they won't be able to afford the tat they are producing.

There's some recent videos of business owners trying to get stuff made in the USA.

It's almost impossible, one guy has a product needing injection moulding, in USA he can get it made, but the manufacturers get the mould made....in China.
