Hi, wonder if anyone could offer any advice please.

I have stripped all the wallpaper back on the first bedroom in my 1978 house that we have recently moved into it.

The intention is to re-plaster it.

I have found a window plank at the top of the window and the previous occupier has also put a piece of wood above the window to fix the Curtin pole. Presume he had an issue trying to screw into the area above the window?

Is the wooden plank at the top of the window usual? I haven't seen this in my previous houses I lived in. Can it just be plastered over?

Do you think just take the piece of wood down that is being used to fix the Curtin pole to?

Have attached pictures.

Any advice, thoughts would be appreciated.
