How many cables do you have at each switch?
Surely not just one cable at the ends and two in the middle?

Take a look at the top schematic:
electrics:lighting:schemint.jpg

Although they are both black in the schematic, if you take the two top strappers as red (i.e. from Left switch to intermediate, and from intermediate to right hand switch) then you wont go far wrong.
Also, the blacks should have a red sleeve on them to signify they are being used as a live (line).

In the latter case there should be at least a two core and a single at the end switches.
The first example uses three core&earth.

If you really mean
red and black either end 2 reds 2 black in middle
Then it can only work if someone has used the CPC as a live conductor.

Tashie (again) Can you confirm absolutely that thereis only two core and earth at teh end switches?

Is this how you talk? Non-stop?

Please find where your enter, comma, and full stop keys are, and learn when to use them. I didnt even attempt to read this babble.

Well done that man, can't abide poor punctuation either, some attempt must always be made. And that comes from a mafamatiks person.
