Is Air Vent Needed On New Pipework

Due to a noisy cylinder issue when my hot water heating was coming on, I have since had a gate valve fitted on the return, to reduce the flow and stop this noise.

So far this has done the job which is great but looking at the pipework, I am wondering whether an air vent should have been fitted to the topmost part of the new piping so that any trapped air can be bled out,

Have attached two pics and would appreciate any opinions.

Ok, thanks. Was just worried if it got drained in the future and refilled, there could be an air lock.

It must have filled ok when the work was done, but if it does give you problems one can be added with not much difficulty.

It was done under warranty where the main engineer that requested the work include an air vent but the bloke that actually did the job, didn't bother. Not sure whether I can be bothered to insist on getting one fitted. Just hope it doesn't cause future issues when out of warranty and I have to pay to get one fitted.

You could ask initially and see what happens. Might not take much persuading if it should have been done to begin with.

Waiting for feedback from the chief engineer as job only done yesterday. Thing is, I'm not sure I can be bothered with the hassle again.

Was chatting to a mate who reckoned that as that new piece of piping is quite low down in the circuit, it is very unlikely to get air trapped there which is why the engineer took the decision not to fit an air vent. Is he right ?

That doesn't really matter, looped pipework is a concern anywhere on the system. Again though, if it filled up easily after the changes then it should be fine..

All that is usually needed is a vent at the high point of the primary circuit, usually located above the flow into the coil, which you already have by the looks of it. That little loop to incorporate the gate valve shouldn't really cause any issues as the air would usually be pushed around and up to the highest point. AS suggested, if it all fills fine then it shouldn't be causing an issue.

When the pump kicks in any air still left in that little loop should be pushed around the system around to the AAV.
