Is cooking food now no longer essential?

What am I missing?

If the vast majority of covid deaths are people over 70, if not 80, then with all the fear, self-isolating, lockdowns and mask wearing etc. how did they get infected? (care home fiasco excepted).

Have all the measures taken been totally useless?

The measures advised aren't perfect protection. Nor are all people following the guidance perfectly.

That lack of perfection doesn't mean totally useless.

I take your point, but we seem to be back (or close) to where we were at the end of March.

I think the Government's handling of the situation has been very poor (eat out to help out?), compared to some other countries and I'm convinced this has contributed to the current situation.
