is it normal to be logged out when i quit of the internet

when i close the page then click back on i am still logged in but if i quit safari altogether to i get logged off

I don't have safari but it sounds like it is removing your cookies and history when it closes.

Have a look at Tools -> Options or something similar and see what the setting are for when it closes, look under Privacy etc.

i did no check the stay logged in box if that makes any difference

You did not tell the system to keep you logged on and you're wondering why it doesn't?
