There is the working time directive which limits you to working 48 hrs a week unless agreed otherwise with your employer and a signed opt out.But by the sounds of it your employer wouldn't know or would choose to ignore it.

That is correct its called the European working time directive and you can only go over the 48hrs if you sign a opt-out form....but the 48hr is a average over a 13week period..
