Hi, I have just moved into a new house, and I would like to make sure that a socket that is outside needs to be changed for safety.

The socket is outside on the Kitchen wall, in this small courtyard that is made from the three walls of the house (Dining Room, Kitchen and Bathroom Walls)and covered by a roof made from pvc Sheeting. The socket is a normal indoor double socket, so the question is, :?: should I change the socket to a waterproof double socket for safety.

Thanks :)

Thanks

I was going to change it to a waterproof socket, and was making sure that it was the best thing to do.

I think that there is already a RCD there, if not I will put one in. :D

Will let you know how I get on.

Look near the socket. Is there a pole for tieing horses?

You mean a hitching rail? Like outside the saloon?

So the socket circuit didn't already have an RCD?

Hmmm.....

Will this outside socket now be enough for all your external needs, all sides of the house?

No the socket didn't already have an RCD

Yes this socket should now be enough for all my external needs, as this socket is on the side of the house by the back door, and around the back of the house is the shed which at the moment has only one socket, but I am going to rewire the shed soon and put in some more sockets. And by the way the Cu that the shed is on has an RCD

yeah, just make sure everyone in the house knows that they shouldn't be using sockets inside to power stuff outside.

In theory, with this arrangement, all sockets unsuited to supply eqipment for use outdoors should be labelled as such.
