Hello,
I know this isn't strictly a DIY job but I really need some advice.
I had a tiler tile our new ensuite shower and toilet so the finish would be better than my work. It involved installing a mirror flush with the tiles.
When the work was finished he left a mess, didn't clean grout off tiles and didn't finish the shower corners (sealing etc). Is this usual?
In my opinion the corners are a mess and will be hard to seal now as there is not a clean even gap to run a mastic / caulk bead along. I've noticed that the tiles aren't horizontal either. there is a drop of over 10mm over the length of my 4 foot level.
As such the mirror (3 foot x 3 1/2 foot) is also sloped at a slight angle. It also not flush with the tiles, sticking out a few mm at the bottom, and sunken in a few mm at the top. He even had to badly trim the end of a few of the whole tiles to get it to fit..
The grouting doesn't look like its been compressed into the gaps and is messy and has air bubbles in it from his sponge. Is this ok for a waterproof finish ?
I live in a victorian house, and rather than tile onto existing plaster / brick wall we built a completely vertical / square stud wall with hardibacker to work off so everything should be square.
Is this standard, and kind of error acceptable, your thoughts would be appreciated as I think I could have done better myself and saved a few hundred ££ ! I've uploaded a few photos and would appreciate your thoughts, am I being overly expectant of a pro tiler, or is this shoddy work !
Much appreciated
Joe
