I have some sort of control valve in the gas supply to the gas fire. Can I turn the gas off completely with this ? There is a cover screw and inside there is another screw slug which screws in and out. Just turning it a little makes no difference but can I screw the slug right in to turn the gas off ?

Thanks

Probably with Fairey bubbles !
I'll get a blank for the outlet side where the 8mm pipe is connected.
After that I can get rid of the gas fire, clean out the fire place then get a new one fitted by a gas fitter.
I need to clear out the fireplace so the suppliers can measure up etc. for quotes.

Thanks for the info.

DO NOT DIY GAS.

As easy as it may seem, it's even easier to french connection a job like this.

If the RGI who comes to quote can't remove the fire, at least to measure the opening, he's not worth his weight in salt.

There's a reason we have the Gas Safe Register...
