Hi I would like to put downlighters in my hallway, the downstairs has a 14cm gap from ceiling but upstairs is a flat roof and has only a space of 11-12cm. The downlights i would like to use say i need a gap of 14cm above.

There is no insulation in the ceiling so lots of air space and its concrete above, am i going to be ok to install them with this space?

Thanks

thanks for he reply,

So you don't think the fact that there is no insulation in the ceiling space will allow the heat to be dispensed enough for it to be safe?

LED abit pricey (but not if my saftey is at risk)?

Thanks again

The issue is combustible products.

What if you use a fire Hood with non fire rated down lights?

Have a look at 12v as an option ? They might hv less space clearance

If the manufacturers instruction(MI) say 14cm space above the fitting is required, I would say comply to that, if you cannot, then purchase a product that you can install and be compliant.
Can you either link or upload the MI?

After these lights are fitted, do you think that the level of fire resistance offered to the building's structure, would have been compromised?

Fire integrity of ceiling being compromised. Building regulation approved document B.
If a fire separating element is to be effective, then every joint, or imperfection of fit, or opening to allow services to pass through the element, should be adequately protected by sealing or fire stopping so that the fire resistance of the element is not impaired.

By cutting holes in to the ceiling this has now become compromised as the fittings are not fire rated.

Those Robus fittings are actually ok. The lamps they come with are pretty rubbish but the fitting itself is ok.

I'd rather pay less and supply my own lamp, but I guess they're for conveniece

Thanks everyone for all the great advice, I've decided to install led lights into my current fittings. Managed to find some lamps for only £2.69 for 1.8w = 30w, hopefully this should be bright enough. Thought about dropping the ceiling but this option is cost effective and will also be much cheaper on the electric bill. Unfortunately money in this case really is a massive consideration in my choice. But I think this is the best all round solution. I noticed there were a few websites with some very cheap bulbs imported from china, namely total selling?? I think?? After a little research there were some pretty dodgy reviews on the service and products so please be aware if anyone is reading this.
