Hi everyone,

could someone qualified please tell me what the part of my external door that the red arrow is pointing to in the photo and whether it has a purpose?
Since the majority of the screws on all windows and doors are overlapping, compressing and often warping the frame, it would be very helpful to know.

I really don’t trust this company or its judgement, and to really drive it home, I just want to note a single example.
I’d forgotten about a cheap catnip ball toy thing that I’d stuck onto the inside window wall? It had its own cheap self adhesive tab thing attached which could be removed easily, but rather than mention it to me, the installers just siliconed around it and it had to be the weirdest thing I’d seen someone do in a long time. It was obviously not a permanent fixture.

There have been no end of issues with the install and I don’t trust the company a single bit to tell the truth now. I’ve had to have the exterior doors realigned numerous times since install in May and it’s been confirmed the front door frame will need replacing again (third time including original renewal installed) if that’s of any use.

Yeah, the thing the screw is overlapping.

Frame is just a frame. Sides aren't different just because there is no latch plate. They run 1000s metres all the same.

In the particular photo example the line has no use , being on the hinge side. Ideally your frames shouldn't be ' warped' around screw heads but invariably there is a small amount as to make sure the screw is tight

they’re like it all the way around the 3 external door frames and around all
of the windows. I’ve included photo of the latch side of the same door.

If you saw the state of everything before they supposedly carried out the remedial works you’d be shocked.

I don’t think it’s a lot to expect new windows and doors to look and function like new windows and doors. I’ve also included a photo of how they left the joint seals, no idea if that’s what they’re called but I don’t think leaving them like that is standard practice.

Also included a couple others, the one with a gaping hole in a window frame that there was no way the fitter didn’t know about it, and the other ones with a screw missing and one half hanging out was missed by 2 managers who were sent out to inspect and list the problems.
I missed it at the time I wrote my first list, but I was so unbelievably overwhelmed, I’m also short and not comfortable about climbing onto things when I have balance issues.
You’d just think 2 professionals would have spotted everything between them right?

When they came back out this week, it was obvious to me that they were talking rubbish to avoid having to correct any more of their failures, but all they’ve done is make me even more confident that they’re just generally rubbish.
I said to them a few times that I’d appreciate if they could just have a look at everything whilst they were here because I’m likely to space on stuff in the moment. They didn’t bother to do that, they just kept asking what was next and as predicted I spaced, because having blatant liars in my home gives me major anxiety.

I’ve added another of the latch side with a little red line to identify because I think it shows better what I mean about it being all of them.

Infact, they were supposed to sort out the window that had the missing screw and other one hanging out but the only did half of that job and I’m really just vexed with that cowboy outfit now tbh. So sick of having to chase everything repeatedly. The screw on the left is the replacement for the missing screw and you can see the other one, still not screwed in properly.
I don’t understand why they completely lack the ability to put screws in properly and/or in a tidy manner.

It was Anglian Home Improvements who have a decent rating, and I find that odd.
I’m a housing association tenant so really just the middle man, but it kind of feels like they just didn’t give a crap about quality because I’m just a housing association tenant if that makes sense?

I have opened a case with the housing ombudsman about it all because I’m not a direct customer of Anglian and it’s ultimately the landlords choice of contractor, so it’s them who it falls on to get things put right, but as far as I know, they haven’t even bothered to report them to any of the governing bodies like fensa, and I feel like I’m banging my head against a wall.

I just feel like there’s no excuse at all for such a badly done job but that’s all I’m being fed. I get that some buildings can be difficult or whatever, but this was just a lazy job. I’m told that they admitted some faults so they’re keen to fix things but that’s just a manipulation thing isn’t it. “Oh we’ve admitted this needs doing so why would we make stuff up about the other things being fine”? To save anymore cost to themselves and to attempt to save face I think.
The mistake they made here is that I’m not the type of person to back down when I know something isn’t right, but I’d imagine a lot do. I don’t know anything about statistics but I do know there are a lot of vulnerable people in housing like mine and plenty that wouldn’t have the courage to speak up about these things. Anglian are relying on that to get away with poor installations because they’ve agreed to a contract that might not be all they’d hoped for financially speaking and want to cut costs.

I’m going ahead with my initial plan to request an independent inspection of the works, as part of the housing ombudsman case, someone with no skin in the game so to speak.

I'm glad your are committed to holding them to account, they shouldn't get away with this kind of poor quality install.

They looked at all the 3 windows and front door and quoted me £8000 (back in 2002)! I think said something like "holy sh*t", when I heard that price. The salesman then said he could knock a bit off, I said don't bother. I literally had to push him out of the front door to get rid of him.

I'm glad your are committed to holding them to account, they shouldn't get away with this kind of poor quality install.
I've only had one experience with Anglian and it wasn't a good one. They cold called me once, I lived in a 1 bedroom flat at the time which needed new windows as it happened. They looked at all the 3 windows and front door and quoted me £8000 (back in 2002)! I think said something like "holy sh*t", when I heard that price. The salesman then said he could knock a bit off, I said don't bother. I literally had to push him out of the front door to get rid of him.

That’s ridiculous!! A sales tactic to make you think you’re getting a bargain in the end when they ‘knock some off’ right?
It makes my skin itch thinking about these scam like companies.
That’s a silly amount of money even by today’s standards.
