Is This OK?

Couldn't read the numbers so posted (poor) images.
Indeed. if you cant read them then a photo isn't much help!. There's usually two lots of numbers. One set says the BS number and voltage 400v etc - I thin k that's the set you have photo'd. Also on the cable, may be on the other side, or a foot or so away from the first set, there will be something like this

3 x 2.5

indicating the number of cores and the size of the cores. Thats the figure needed.

Its kind of hard to see if the cable is grubby (especially in the dark.) A wet finger usually reveals the answer!

Couldn't find any other numbers and the only ones I can read are 600/10000V. The 'Mains' switch box has a neon light but no fuse! Will now look again at W's #8 reply.

Spoke to the previous owner yesterday and he tells me that the cable was connected 20 years ago when the house was built and that one the sockets was only ever used for the freezer, and the other for the
lawnmower. Although my usage will be exactly the same and I want to leave the cable in place, I would like to replace/update the existing set-up.

I would certainly replace the 'mains' switch with a fused one and would welcome recommendations preferably from the screwfix range.

Also, since the CU has its own power breaking unit would it be ok to fit a new double socket without a power breaker.

Re the lighting, is there a better/safer way to wire this?

Lastly, although I cannot replace the cable, I am unhappy about the way it is connected. Is it possible to get some sort of connection box that can be fitted to the wall and connected to the ring circuit and to the armoured cable?

Hi, i would fit a FCU at the house end, and a second FCU in the shed to supply the light fused down to 3amp.

Regards,

DS
