Why are you fearful of being shot by a trigger happy, ill-informed policeman? Do you, unlike the majority of us, operate on the wrong side of the law?

You appear to be (perhaps deliberately) mis-stating the point; that on this occasion, a law-abiding person going about his business, and on the RIGHT side of the law, was pursued and shot dead.

Exactly JohnD. He was just as law-abiding as those killed in the London atrocities.

Yes, but he was killed by the 'good guys'. In fact more innocents have been shot by police than actual terrorists....

<<< I was gonna rewrite that last sentence as it can be read two different ways, then I realised that they are both true.

Whilst I would say that any country that has the right to bear arms written into its constitution does deserve whatever it gets in relation to firearm problems ...

The Americans do this by executing people who are KNOWN to be innocent
This seems a little extreme Oilman

Not at all. One case when even the victim of the crime was saying the accused wasn't the culprit couldn't stop the process, and he was given the lethal jab. No problem though, he wasn't white.

There is always the risk of that whilst police are armed, John. Even when suspects have been through a murder trial there are numerous cases where the innocent have been found guilty and hanged. The last person hanged in Britain (Derek Bentley) being a case in point.

So we have a choice. Either arm police and take a small risk, or disarm police and let them wrestle with suicide bombers. What's you choice, John?

Once again Joe you are completely missing the point.

Nobody is arguing the case for specialist forces to be unarmed, of course not, but what is being debated is the manner in which these armed forces operate.

Let's be very clear ... There can be NO justification for executing a law abiding member of the public in the way of JCdM.

Serious mistakes were made in this case (not by the officers who shot him though IMO) and lessons need to be learnt from the sad incident.

If we don't ensure the safety of our own people in the fight against terror (or anything else) then the terrorists win ... Can't you see that?

Can you give me the detail please Oilman as I'd be interested in reading about it.

Thanks

No I can't see that. It was a simple case of mistaken identity. The only way to check who the guy really was was to take a swab for DNA testing. Is that what you are suggesting? Procrastinate long enough and sooner or later a lot of people will be killed and maimed because people like you want to dither. Sorry, I'm not for dithering. It wasn't an ordinary day in London, it was believed the capital was under attack. In other words it was a case of being killed by 'friendly fire' - because there's a war out there - and mistakes will always be made. Unless of course you can tell us all how it SHOULD be done? (he won't).

I don't think silly does it with J90 ... He's bordering on psychotic

Sorry, I'm not for dithering
No Joe, we know ... You're for shooting innocent people.

It wasn't an ordinary day in London
Err yes, actually, it was until the police executed an innocent member of the public.

It was believed the capital was under attack.
Like we really need more dubious intelligence, all from arguably the best intelligence service in the world ... Less belief more proof would be good.

In other words it was a case of being killed by 'friendly fire' - because there's a war out there
Really Joe

Humour him everyone he thinks the War's still going on.

How it should be done is simple Joe put our world class intelligence services to good use and shoot the right people ... Do you have a problem with that also?

Well they did a fine job warning us of the weapons of mass destruction didn't they? How world class is that? How many have died in Iraq due to that intelligence led fiasco? Oh I forgot - they were just a bunch of Iraqi civilians so they don't count eh?
