Hi, has anyone here experienced an issue with the above Warm Air Unit whereby everything seems to be working fine, but the fan doesn’t spin up when supposed to then gets very, very hot? Tried changing the fan (as had a squealing fan a few years back before it failed completely and new fan did the trick then) - however the new fan didn’t spin up either and immediately started getting hot again. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Hi, many thanks for your comment. No, I’ve not changed the capacitor but will now look into this. Would the same issue cause the fans to heat up? Thanks!

Thanks Bernard,
Checked the Heating System this morning and for the life of me, I cannot see an existing capacitor similar to the one you gave the link for. There is however a Fan Speed Regulator (Johnson & Starley S00134). Would that have a different form of capacitor built into it?
Sorry, these may be obvious questions, but struggling with a lack of knowledge of the system and I can't get anyone local as recommended by J&S to come near as they haven't serviced it previously.

There is however a Fan Speed Regulator (Johnson & Starley S00134).

OK that suggests the fan is not a simple fixed speed motor that a capacitor aided motor is.

I have no experience of the variable speed motors that J&S use. Sorry cannot help

Thanks Ian, I've ordered a new fan speed regulator today, so hopefully that will do the trick. Also, as I see you are Lanarkshire, can you recommend any Engineers that have experience with these Warm Air systems that would be able to work on mine (I am in Paisley area).

Unfortunately not, not had a lot of call for WAU's nor have I anyone I know that does, so can't help I'm afraid.

I can't get anyone local as recommended by J&S to come near as they haven't serviced it previously

I'm really surprised by that comment though, just because I haven't worked on a system before wouldn't preclude me from working on one.

Hi All,

Just an update, I procured and fitted the new fan speed regulator and connected it up (simple wiring job) and that has done the trick. Thank you for those who suggested this!

Also, as surprising as it may be, I still cannot get a service engineer to service my Warm Air Heating System, so if there are any service engineers out there with the qualifications to service this type of heater, I would be extremely glad to hear from you.

Thanks again to all for the extremely helpful advice!

Warm air systems are traditionally a dogs dinner with poor installation and lack of maintainence.
I spent 2 days sorting out one system...incorrect vents and every flue joint from the basement to the roof terminal was leaking.
This is why you might struggle to find someone that hasn't looked at it before.
