Hi I have socket where the wires have accidentally been cut and I need to put a new length in, but there isn't enough space to use a plastic terminal block. Is there another way to connect the cables and suitable products please? :(

there is crimps but they won't be much smaller than terminal block and if you get em wrong you'll lose even more wire

i'd solder on a length of 2.5mm flex core (flex will be easier to tightly wrap onto the existing cable for a good solder joint and will put less stress on the joint when the socket is screwed in place, 2.5mm flex is a little tricky to get though unfortunately) and then cover the joint with heatshrink.

Good thinking plugwash :D I'll give that a try. As I've not used heatshrink before, what do I use as the heat source - will a soldering iron be sufficient, and what is the actual technique please?

running the side of a soldering iron bit along heatshrink seems to be pretty effective at least with the smaller sizes.
