Hi there, long time viewer, 1st time poster here.

i've looked through a lot of the posts on here with similar problems as mine.

The problem I have is, the new bottle trap I am fitting has an outlet pipe not long enough to reach the outside wall, I have various types of fitting available to me, but nothing suits exactly joining pvc to the chrome.
There is a very slight discrepency in the sizes. Thought of bonding etc, but is there anything suitable to bond, something like a gripfill but waterproof?
Nothing conclusive seems to have come out of the other posts, but as it seems quite common on scanning the net I wondered if anything has come up?

Thanks.
Dave.

there you go- 1 1/4"universal compression coupler.

Thanks,

Yep, looked at one of those, problem is the join is more or less in the centre of the cavity wall, meaning to get this in I will have to open up the hole in the wall a lot bigger, was hoping for something more slimline, like the inline bonded connectors, but if this is my only option I guess thats what I will have to do.

Thanks anyway.

Hi,
I did see that on another thread, the person also had the same problem as me though. The chrome pipe has a nice collar which fits to the wall to make a nice neat looking seal. With a joiner like that it sort of defeats the object of having the nice looking trap and pipe...mmmm.

Maybe the only other thing is to try and find longer chrome pipe?

My local B&Q have certainly started stocking chromed plastic pipe and fittings, so it might be worth you looking there. Failing that, I have managed to get the metal chromed pipe supplied on my bathroom sink to fit a standard push fit coupler, with copious amounts of silicone lubricant. I expect it may compress the rubber seal a little more than one would really prefer, but it's been fitted a year and no problems so far.

Thanks.

Will have a look at a couple of places today...
Hopefully I will find something.

When I had this problem this was how I fitted pipe etc. Bear in mind I had nice domed chrome collar aprroximately 20mm deep
1.Marked centre of pipe on wall
2. Drilled centre pilot hole 10mm
3. Started 2 1/2" core drill about 10-15mm depth
4. Removed 2 1/2" and put 1 1/2" core bit through wall
5. replace 2 1/2 core and drill out first skin of brick to required depth
6. make a good seal onto plastic pipe with comp' coupler.
7. Measure required length of chrome to internal stop on coupler.
8. depending on access to compression nut once in place you may want to make coupler onto chrome tube now and push into wall and make into trap at later.
9. Before you seal everything in you may want to test waste.
First visually test by running water through, when happy no leaks I would put compression cap on end of external pipe. Fill basin to overflow, leave for an hour then come back and check water level hasn't dropped.

Well, Thanks to everyone who replied with the ideas.

To keep things nice n simple I plumped for the easy option...

Just used the regularar 32mm pvc pipe, one length from trap to elbow outside the wall. Once all was connected ant the collar fixed, I got some chrome self adhesive vinyl, carefully measured and cut to suit. Very carefully aligned it and now you cant even tell the difference.

Thanks again.

chrome self adhesive vinyl

Good for you!! It sure won't leak. WHere did you get it from????? I have another application, nothing to do with plumbing!

Got it off Ebay ages ago, got some left over from a PC modding project.
I think B&Q do it as well.
