Hi there
I have masonry joist hangers installed into brickwork. The mortar joint was cut out and hangers inserted then filled back in with mortar. I'm a bit weary of using nails for noggings and the hanger itself as I don't want the hammering to disturb the mortar.

I'm being told that you can't use screws. Is this true. The joists span 2 meters and are 50mm x150mm.
Thanks in advance, Neil

You can use screws in the hangers also.

You might be able to use screws, but it depends.

It might be best to use blocks of wood for noggins in any case, not nails.
