Hi, maybe people remember that i have just qualified 2382 and rewiring a house for my part p assessment. i shall post image of my first cu tommorrow. However i am prone to hyper bouts of paranoia which is good in a way cos its all about learning and doing things correctly. Is it acceptable, where a lighting junction box is required, to place this junction box in the void between ground and first floor, ie under the upstairs floorboards. Is it classed as accessible with fitted carpet down? I know its all about opinion but would really appreciate any experienced or knowledgeable comments (I have come to expect nothing else!)

Thanks

I'm less qualified that you but I would say no, under floorboards under carpet isn't accessible. I'd be reluctant to put a JB under screwed a screwed down floorboard 'lifter' even if there was no carpet down

Personally I would say that it is not accessible.....unless it's for downlights and you can remove it through the hole!!

If you absolutley have to have a junction box then to me you have two options-

1. Mount the joint in a 1g or 2g pattress on a wall and fit a blank plate
2. Same as 1 really - use a dry line box and put it in the ceiling
3. Put it in the void, forget about it, and in 5 years time have a fault that you cannot get to!!

OR .... you could loop at the switch!!!!!

Yes, I know I said 2 8) 8)
