Thanks for all your input and help... I feel much better informed and now understand what I need to do to rectify this shoddy workmanship!

Ill also try to choose my tradesmen a bit better too!

If I hadnt taken the tiles down, Id be none the wiser!

Hmm, dodgy wiring behind tiles, just makes me think of a scene from The Money Pit, of which there is a tiny clip at 35 seconds in here.
