Keybox that's actually secure?

Just today I had to advise a relative who's just bought a new house with one of these outside the front door https://tinyurl.com/yez856vu not to use it, given how easy they are to break into (see YouTube). But are there any that are really secure?

I’d imagine any key box that not set flush in the wall could be knocked off the wall with a hammer.

True but multiple strong fixings into brick in a suitable location might do for me if the box can't be easily opened without knowing the combination. Any burglar would still have my alarm to contend with even with keys.

Apparently they are not difficult to pick with patience and practice. Whether burgalars would bother I'm not sure

Problem with keyboxes is you’re telling thieves where your keys are

A bit like the encrochat phones that criminals were all using with abandon

They thought they were safe because of the encryption but overlooked the fact that the phones would immediately be a target for law enforcement to crack

The cheap ones are often a zinc-alloy and, as @Mottie, says, they are very susceptible to coming apart after being hit.

That is far more important. The better ones are relatively thick steel.

I don't see the problem with a high quality key safe if you have a house alarm and live in a busy city.

I have done the second one and it's dead easy....

One thing to consider is insurance. If a lock can be picked easily, you don't have burglary evidence. If one has to resorto a hammer to knock if off the wall, at least there you have higher chances of insurance being paid. In such situations, if you can leave a key with a trustworthy neighbour is definitely safer.

Around here they prise them off the wall, take them away to open them and come back later with the key. Even better if there is a tag for the alarm in the key safe with the key. Preferable if the key safe can be positioned out of sight.

I bought a supra c500 key safe which is apparently pretty good. For drunk/forgetful teenagers to get back in. Don't know about the lock but the way I've fixed it would be physically easier to break in via the door or a window. We live on a main road so people would see us hiding a key under a stone.

The best way to make a keybox safe is to fit it on the inside of the door!!!
