Providing you use the same size cable as that which the main circuit is wired in from the cooker switch to the fused spur. Then you can use a smaller size from then on.
You should also make sure any additional load can be catered for by the existing circuit. But in the case of a cooker hood, this should not be a problem. What loading is the hood?
