thanks BAS. what about the possibility or arcing when the fuse is removed.
It's not likely.

Nor is it likely that I'll be involved in a crash when I drive my car, but I still wear my seatbelt at all times.

Someone mentioned that its possible another fuse could be furher up the line?
Indeed there will be. Perhaps someone will tell us it's typical rating.....

BAS got an idea.. can I put a 40amp MCB in the main existing board then run from that to my new mini shower unit with the 40amp RCD?

me been a wally.. existing shower was rigged upto a 32amp mcb.. can get hold of a 40amp mcb for £20.. what you rekon.. game on?

Sounds simpler.

You'll still need to go through the external RCD though.

Have you bought the new shower, BTW?

again thanks for coming back.

"sounds simpler".... legal?

and yes will hook 40amp mcb to new mini shower unit with 40amp RCD then run to DP switch then to shower.

yes got shower 8.5kw.

When my spark fitted a separate mini CU for my new shower, he needed to 'split the tails'. To isolate the system, he wiggled the fuse about half-way out so that it cut the supply, but he didn't need to touch the DNO's seal. At least, that's what it looked like he was doing.

I'd be very wary of doing that, slightest knock and it will come back on - and given how annoying it can be to manipulate meter tails at times, it would be all too easy to knock it...

How dangerous and stupid was that
