Land tax is interesting, the underlying value of the land is assessed without reference to what’s on it. So someone with a big back garden could get hammered even without getting planning permission

I would prefer starmer to limp on, he's the best man they've got for the job. Burnham will cause damage and he is already behaving as if the job is his.

He will have no mandate and that was the biggest issue Gordon Brown faced.

- orderly transition
- nominate an heir apparent and let him lose

Burnam faces the huge challenge that the right wing media and politicians have made asylum the central issue in British politics. It’s important but not more important than the economy, the threat from Pootin and his mates, and European integration and investment on defence

Burnham winning the bye election and eventually becoming PM falls into the hands of the right wing voters.

It has to be in everybody's interest that he sorts out the mess our country is in.
If he does then all power to the man. I believe he has done wonders for Manchester.

All that being said, he has a massive job on his hands sorting this country and pleasing the right of centre.

If he fails then the centralised voting public will see no option than to vote Reform.
I believe Restore are to radical but these two need to meet ½ way to get into power.
We need the foreign vote to get the coalition over the line. Thats where Restore may be the thorn in the back of the neck.

From what I've read, they've jumped on the "Land Tax" bandwagon but what they're proposing isn't actually a land tax at all. It's just standard Labour party lies and spin - don't ever believe a word they say.

With true Land Tax, people in high rise flats would pay next to nothing, while a cheap shack in the country with a big garden would pay loads. But that isn't what's proposed.

The suggestion last year from some lefty think tank was just an annual 0.5% tax on all property. So basically a revaluation of council tax with no upper limit. Also with a huge redistribution from south to north, which would definitely suit the "King of the North". They would need to collect it all nationally then hand out pocket money to the councils. Those down south would get less than was collected, those up north would get a greater proportion or possibly more than collected in some fringe cases, the government would pocket the (probably huge) surplus leftover from the amount collected.

We'd actually pay less from this proposed system, as we have a big house in a cheap area. But most would lose out. As ever with lefty governments, any change is very likely to result in an increase in the tax taken from the people by them.
