Labours EU deal

As an EU member we were completely free to trade with whoever we liked

As a member or shops were full of goods from China, India, America, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand, Canada, Japan......

where were we unable to trade??
The EU had an amount of control (including tariffs) on how our non-EU external trade operated. After Brexit we were no longer subject to those limitations.

It's the poor confused fishermen that I feel for, they will be simultaneously over the moon and also very angry about Starmer's fishing deal.

It is all extremely complicated and interlinked. It's no wonder Brexit voters are befuddled!

I’m not happy about the thief exchange programme. Unless, that is, we can export more thieves than we import.

I appreciate that is the theory, in practice its not true

50% of UK imports come from EU (42% exports)
13.5% of UK imports come from China
10% of UK imports come from USA
1.5% of UK imports come from Japan
1.1% of UK imports come from Canada

So 75% of our imports come from places where we had a trade deal as part of EU and now have continuity deals and the others (China and USA) we stand no chance of ever getting worthwhile trade deals

You say we are no longer subject to those conditions, but the UK is now a $3trillion sixe economy, we have no leverage to create better trade deals than we had.

Any benefits we might gain from making our own trade deals is massively outweighed by losing frictionless trade as a Single Market member

As I say, please have a think what good were available in the UK when we were a member and what goods are available now..........theres no noticeable difference

Now correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t you ALWAYS going on about the lack of produce on your supermarket shelves due to Brexit, particularly tomatoes?

As an EU members around 80% of what we catch was exported -mostly to French ports straight off the boat
fish and sea food caught in UK waters is mostly not what we eat, but they like in Europe

post brexit exporting to EU became far more difficult

brexit has damaged fishing industry significantly

By the way, the reason we have so many fishing boats in our waters from Europe is because British fishermen flogged their quotas to Dutch, French, Spanish fleets and nothing changed with Brexit

why does Nigel Farage steer clear of fishing communities in UK? A = because he threw them under a bus and they arent too happy

please dont religitate old arguments, because you cant cope with the fact you LOST

Ive provided the evidence many times proving brexit damaged supply chains and led to rolling shortages, Its not my fault you are too boneheaded to accept facts.

the articles you linked showed that brexit made fishermen worse off............because it turned out we didnt hold all the cards

I get your points, but Brexit wasn't just about trade was it.

So is Starmer right or wrong to do this new deal? How are the fishermen going to fare in the future?

If the deal cuts out the red tape around fish and seafood exports then our fishermen should do better.

I would have thought an extension to EU fishing rights was at least worth an extension to Schengen travel. Perhaps 9 months out of 12? rather than the current 3 out of 6.
