Laminate floor to carpeted stairs

Where the laminate floor meets the bottom of carpeted stairs, how should that be finished? Should that be same as the beading between the skirting board and floor? Thanks.

an expansion gap.
If the carpet comes down the riser, it can hide the gap.

Unfortunately, mine has a visible gap. The only possibility is to add something on top. I think a flat edging piece with colour closely matching the floor would work, such as this https://www.homebase.co.uk/laminate-floor-edge-natural-oak-2m/12812391.html. But, I think that would be difficult to find.

If I add a padding, the nail plate will no longer hook on to the carpet. Does that mean I have to leave the carpet unhooked?

Remove the carpet grip and add a thin lath.
Refit the gripper, or renew.
Fix carpet

Only if life is that simple! The gap only appears on the right side. What I will do is use metal washers as shims and thread these through the fixing nails or replacement screws.

Doesn’t matter if gap is uneven you cover it all as suggested.
