Hi
Looking to fit newels and spindles etc, on the landing, 1735 mm long returning to the wall approx 1 metre, neightbour had a chippy do this last year see pic. Need to know the best way to fit the newels and the half newel thats against the plaster board wall. The chippy put a wide base plate and the newels are sitting on this, wondered how he had fixed them to the newel, would it be dowled an glued to the base plate, would that be strong enough.
would load some pics but cant see how to attach.
thx[/img]

structural newels are normally jointed onto the stair stringer or floor joist. half newels are decorative and can be glued or screwed.

your picture posting was unsuccessful. can you try again?
