Hi do i need any protective membrane so no damp will enter the house?

I'm laying a patio path about 10" high off the ground floor.

if you mean, that you would like to lay a paved area higher than the d.p.c. , then common sense and building laws say that you shouldn't. but in some cases where ground conditions make it inevitable then b.c. will allow you to fix a 150mm lead flashing upstand, at the point where paving and wall meet. its exactly the same scenario as a flat roof.
