Hi,

I am planning to lay some 15mm hard wood floors in the hallway + dining room. Although the best finish will be to take out the skirting boards and put them back in when the floor is done, I am thinking of whether I can lay the floor close to the skirting and put beading to close the gap.

Here is my question. How would I cover the gap around the door frame? Do I try and cut the floorboards to the shape of the door frame?

Any advice is appreciated.

no get an old saw and a scrap piece of board then cut the door frames so that the flooring will slide under the door frame looks much neater

Right you are, but also there: keep enough space for your expansion underneath the doorpost

and for goodness sake, remove the existing skirts first.

you don't wanna be spending all that dollar on a new floor only for it to look naff.

beading around a skirting board is pants!
