Hi all

Happy new year. I woke to find a leaky boiler (not a great start). I found the leak which appears to be coming from a crack in the yellow cap. See attached images.

Any ideas what the component is that the yellow cap is attached to? And if i would

be able to replace the cap?

Or as a temp fix is their a glue i could use to seal the crack?

Thanks in advance

That is your condensate trap, the cap is for cleaning it out. Unfortunately that plastic cap is safety critical (and a bad design) as the water in that trap is stopping combustion gases from entering your room.
Get it replaced ASAP and if you have to operate the boiler in the mean time, set an alarm for every hour while it's operating and if the water level drops past half way switch off the boiler completely and open a window. That trap must be full all the time.
Where does the white pipe go? If combustion gases came out would they go outside or inside your house?

Thanks for the reply. That does not sound good. Is it a straight forward fix? The white pipe goes to the outside of the house does this mean it is a bit safer?

Thanks again

David

Your very honest, some people would buy a new yellow cap and with precautions change it themselves.

dont think glue will work, the water in the crack is slightly acidic and messing around with it could cause the leak to worsen rendering the boiler out of action.

Yes it's an easy fix and yes it would be a bit more safe that way. Less likely to have fumes building up inside.

Agreed, just be sure to refill the condensate trap before starting up the boiler again.
Old & bold what's the character in your picture? Some part character of jade colour?

before that bottle leaks i expect it would lock out or take board out via the HT leads on the pcb plus the theres two chambers within condense trap to empty before gases would escape
