Leaking pipes - Speedfit fittings? problems caused by hot weather?

Just adding something that I have come across with PE pipe, if a screw is put into the pipe at installation accidentally when putting floors back down , screwing plasterboard etc, sometimes it seals and then through time the screw rusts and starts leaking a few months down the line, not saying that is your problem but is worth bearing in mind.

Cannot understand why FOC comes to mind before any attemp is made to identify the issue. Would the poster pay double charge for calling out the installer if it was not his woman ship to blame?

Above is very similar to "it is the same problem as the last time" I hear time and again when boilers repaired previously break down again

Indeed hence my comment on jumping in feet first. Had one recently "you only serviced the boiler recently why has it broken?".

Well madam, for a start it was 8 months ago, and, the fan has failed. Nothing to do with servicing on a 7 year old boiler.

The problem contractually is trades people often occupy this fuzzy area between time hire and fixed price. If the plumber charges you a daily/hourly rate plus materials, then you don't have much of an argument* to make him come back for free. However, if he's quoted a price for a job all in - then you do.

* Unless you could show the standard of work fell below that of a reasonable competent person.

Unless he's bell end, its best to be polite and ask him to take a look at it. You can then argue about the fee later.

A car is serviced annually but not one customer a few months down the line complains that the service caused the fault or that it should be dealt with FOC should the car breakdown.

Why is there this gap of knowledge between a vehicle and a boiler? Both require annual services and both have a tendency to breakdown. In fact any mechanical device should have a minimum 12 month service but will still be prone to breakdowns.

A service is an inspection that may highlight some issues on the future, some that need to be dealt with straight away or nothing at all. It will involve a check of parts that are prone to wear, and if MIs state, certain seals replaced at specified intervals. A service does not ever guarantee that an appliance will be trouble free.

Are the inserts not just BS?

Once the pipe is under pressure surely it's being pushed outwards onto the seal?

A push fit fitting can go onto a copper pipe no insert required because copper is rigid,
But plastic pipe is not rigid will flex, so a insert will create a rigid section.
