Don't get me wrong I've certainly seen tilers drop a full tile onto the tray, see it more and more but I have to be honest and the way the tilers we work with do it is the first row starts centre/centre on the wall, that way the cut's the same top and bottom and it's then symmetric, especially with the larger tiles.
