After viewing the footage it is clear that exaggerated force was used when Harwood pushed Tomlinson. Was the push justified? From the contents of the footage, no.
Circumstances leading up to this are unclear. This will be revealed and analysed in court. Although to me the footage is what it is. Tomlinson walking away, hands in pockets, with his back to Harwood. Was he a threat to Harwood or anybody else at this point? Clearly not.
Harwood's past can only contribute in making sense of why this excessive force was used. Clearly there was no intention to achieve this awful tragedy but nevertheless, The actions of this man caused the death of an individual.
Personally I feel Harwood should serve time for this.
