Hi can anyone help with a problem im having controlling my heating and hot water independently, at the moment I can only have CH when HW is on, I have a Mid poss 3PV, surely I can have hot water on only?

Thanks John, 3PV has been replaced recently, theres no light/power at CH side of programmer until HW is on.
What has been done to the system since it last worked correctly? Has anyone touched the programmer? Has the 3PV been added and there was not previously one?

If I understand you correctly, yes, you can have HW without CH. But you can't have CH without HW. This is normal for gravity HW systems and no big deal provided you have a cylinder stat and a 3-port valve; as soon as the HW gets up to temp the CH should be on.
You say the CH lamp will not come on unless the HW switch is on, this is typical of a programmer set to Gravity HW (IIRC on your programmer there is a switch on the back)
