Light bulbs ...another reason to kick the EU up the A...

Tungsten or carbon for the filament, both vey low on the toxicity scale.

But because they used five to ten times as much electricity, the power stations created more toxic pollution.

For example, in the days before CFLs which were feared because they contained mercury, our coal power stations poured more mercury pollution into our atmosphere, supplying filament lamps, than later entered the environment from the CFLs.

There's no point talking science with quitters...

They are a collective of ignorant cults

and because they produce heat the heating bill for the building is less.

Aren't most up on the ceiling, where the heat rises to anyway? And in spring and summer, they just make everything too warm!

Thats true but a single 100w incandescent in a room isnt going to provide the greatest light!
A bit dim?

One could say the same about the anti EU rant from the OP :)

Bernard likes to keep the spiders warm, even in Summer.

Are they really energy efficient and "carbon neutral" when you take acoount of the entire life cycle from raw materials to end of life ( failed lamp ) disposal.

There are claims that for the same level of perceived comfort LED lighting requires a room to be a degree or two warmer than the same room with incandescent lighting.

I think it was Philips Lighting way back in the 1970s who investigated the difference in comfort effect between "cold" flourescent lighting and incandescent lighting.

You're quite right ....when you go to the recycling centres there's a specific place to dispose of low energy light bulbs.
Toxicity must be bad ....and how much energy is used to dispose of them ?? Probably more than they save !

It's a bit like condensing boilers yes they're more efficient in use but overall do the figures add up.... I suspect not ....more servicing required at least once a year ...old boilers could safely be left longer ...so diesel reqd for more service visits and all those kettles that have to be used to thaw out frozen condensate pipes.
Boilers that stop working in very cold weather ....great !

The irony of Brexiteers who think all their problems are due to regulations, why dont you look at any third world country you despise yet want to emulate.

What sets the developed world apart are these standards and regulations.

What are you on ? Brexiteers despising third world countries ? Clap trap sheer bloody clap trap. If that's your conclusion based on concern about levels of migration you're a bloody idiot.

Yes! Let's leave the EU so we can stop using energy efficient products and increase our electricity bills, that'll make us great again!

Maybe I'll buy some shares in EON this year ...

You're seeing sense at last !
