Light switch wiring (2 switches, 3/4 wires, old colours)

Just tried another combo and the trip switched when I turned all power back on. Now I turn the upstairs lights trip switch up and there is a popping sound, its finally up and in place but now all the lights upstairs are unusable! There was me thinking changing over a light switch and connecting up 6 wires was easy! Do I have to replace the trip switch or something?

You have probably knackered the switch by creating a dead short, you or anybody else on here cannot unjumble the mess that the wiring is currently in the only way to solve it now is to get a spark on site to test what is what he can then work out what goes where.
If you carry on playing Russian roulette with your wiring you could end up dead.
