hi.
i want to install an exterior light with a timer but instead of a light sensor, i want to use a push switch like a doorbell switch (to stay on for say 20 seconds once pressed and released). What would i need and how could i do this?
thanks in advance,
john.

C.E.F do a device which may be suitable....stock number 0047-7070.
Basically switches the live feed from the supply to the appliance.
John :)

Thanks John.
I wasn't really wanting a switch like that next to my front door. I there a way of wiring a doorbell to do the job, I expect by using a relay of some sort. I'm assuming the problem would be to convert 240V mains to something suitable (12V?) to power the doorbell circuit.
Any ideas?

For sure, there are timer kits made by the likes of Maplins (VFO6G) for example, but the relay involved there wouldn't be suitable and you wouldn't want it mains live anyway. Also, a door bell push musn't be used with mains, obviously.
If your doorbel has a transformer providing the supply, you'll need a switch that will time a 12v supply or whatever - maybe a mechanical type?
John :)
